Like many of you, I have found myself frequently checking for updates regarding the coronavirus situation. In a time when there are so many unknowns, we seem to cling to the bits of information that we receive. We want to know answers to all of the questions. Will I get sick? Will I spread it unknowingly? Will my friends and family get sick? What’s going to happen to my job? The economy? Will graduations, weddings, funerals, and other important life events happen? How long will this go on? Will life as we know it change indefinitely?
We can quickly become anxious and overwhelmed by all of the unknowns.
Many years ago, my dad gave me some advice that has stuck with me: “Don’t be too concerned about the parts of the Bible you don’t understand; instead, be concerned about the parts you do understand!”
We are facing many unknowns today, but I believe we can take comfort in some “knowns” we find in the Bible.
*I know that God loves me. (John 3:16, Romans 5:8, 1 John 3:1)
*I know that He promises to never leave me. (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 28:20)
*I know that I am not alone. (Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 43:2)
*I know that He is faithful. (Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalm 91:4)
*I know my redeemer lives. (Job 19:25)
*I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (Hebrews 13:8, Malachi 3:6)
*I know that nothing comes as a surprise to Him. (Psalm 139:16)
*I know He can bring good out of this difficult situation. ( Romans 8:28, John 16:33, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
*I know He is ENOUGH no matter what the future holds (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
I encourage you to take some time to look up the verses above and let God’s promises wash over you once again. See what other verses you find that also help you KNOW His promises.
He is BIGGER than the coronavirus. He is BIGGER than all of the unanswered questions. We can trust Him even now. Relinquish the unknowns and rest in His promises….in the great KNOWNS today.
“Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so…”(Warner & Bradbury)
