Faith and Foosball... Who Knew?
Have you ever played foosball…..in a barn? I have. A little over a year ago, my dad decided to construct a foosball court in the breezeway of one of the barns. It has since become a favorite activity for my family when we gather, and I have a hunch it will be an attraction at this month’s Thanksgiving with extended family.
Our family enjoys the foosball, and Dad has used us as guinea pigs to try out different things to improve the game. (For example….I don’t recommend using a volleyball. It can be a little painful in this setup especially with competitive participants.)
But this foosball has not just been for my family. I have watched my dad and stepmom use it as a tool to connect with others beyond our family. The picture above is from the youth group from their church. More than once, they have invited the youth out to the farm and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the teenagers and their leaders. Though their own children are grown and their grandchildren and great grandchildren do not live nearby, they have recognized an importance in getting to know and love on the youth in their church.
Because of foosball at the farm, there are youth who are getting to know a couple in their 70’s who have and are living out their faith. They are building relationships with people who will pray for them. Who knows how God may choose to use these connections? They are connecting with their church family and being reminded of how the body of Christ can come together. And….they are having a lot of fun in the process.
It always amazes me how God can use whatever we have for His glory. Growing up, I watched my mom and dad host many groups on the farm for hayrides, bonfires, picnics, sledding parties, and more, but this may be the most creative gathering yet. What creative way is God asking you use to reach out?
