A Walk with Dad

A Walk with Dad

by Cara Harrington

It had  been a difficult week.   My heart was hurting from saying "goodbye" to a special friend much sooner than expected.   I was reflecting, remembering, celebrating, and grieving.  And then I went home...  not just  to the place I call "home" now.... but home to where I grew up... home to my favorite place on earth... home to our family farm.

I experienced laughter and  joy as I spent time with family members.  How I love these people.   We spent time playing games, building fence, picking apples, roasting hot dogs, making s'mores, worshipping together around the fire, and so much more.   But one part that is on my heart today is simply a walk with my dad.   This brought such comfort and joy to my heart.

I am grateful for a Dad who points me to my heavenly Father...not just by words, but by example.   There is great comfort and peace we can find when we walk and talk with Him.  He is the best listener and He understands our hearts even when we don't know how to put in words what we are feeling.   He knows our struggles and loves us unconditionally.  He calls us His own.   He knows exactly what we need, and when we are paying attention we can see how He is guiding us one step at a time.   He gives us assurance.   And He gives us joy.

C. Austin Miles penned these words in 1912:

"And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own.

And the joy we share as we tarry there

None other, has ever known."   ("In the Garden" by C. Austin Miles,  1912)

Have you walked with your Father lately?
