A Glorious Gift

(Linda Allmon can often be found volunteering in her community of Sedalia, Missouri where she attends church at First United Methodist Church.)

My husband had died seven weeks ago from a sudden and unexpected medical episode.   My heart was heavy that morning as I reflected on the wonderful marriage and family that we had.   He was my comfort and strength and the true love of my life for 54 years.   Any time that I needed, he would wrap his loving arms around me and affirm his love for me and I, my love for him.

Each morning, I would read the days devotion from a book called, "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young.   Many times, it would be so appropriate for me.   That morning, the words burst off the page, "LOOK TO ME CONTINUALLY for help, comfort, and your companionship.  Because I am always by your side, the briefest glance can connect you with ME...   When you need comfort, I love to enfold you in My arms.   I enable you not only to feel comforted but also to be a channel through whom I comfort others.   Thus you are doubly blessed, because a loving channel absorbs some of whatever flows through it.   My constant Companionship is the summit of salvation blessings.   No matter what losses you experience in your life, no one can take away this glorious gift."

Thank you, God, for always being there and helping me to claim my husband's favorite verse.   2 Timothy 1:7  "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and a sound mind."
